Pay-as-your-need?

Bonjour toute l’équipe

I have been monitoring various market data providers for several years now.

I am an individual, hobbyist investor. I will likely never require more than 1,000 API calls per day. No more than 100 or 200 API calls per minute (burst calls when originating from Google Sheet or ChatGPT). It is also a very irregular pattern, with “busy” months sometimes (while experimenting with a new strategy or when volatility is high), and minimum requirements in other months when everything goes on autopilot.

I am involved in the US and FR equity/ETF markets. EOD data. No intraday data needed. Technical indicators would be nice, but can be recalculated client-side.

I surprisingly can’t find a provider covering those needs. It is a common issue shared by all data providers: my needs are too high for the “free” plans. On the other hand, the entry-level plan is generally oversized and overpriced for me. And I will end up subscribing to features I will not use every month. I don’t think I am alone in this market segment.

Today, logging onto my OEDHD account for the first time since my previous survey 12-18 months ago, I was pleased to see we can now buy “extra apply calls” for as little as 5€ for 100k!

That’s a great move! Two questions thought:

  • Does acquiring “extra apply calls” lift the daily limitations/calls per minute limitations of the free plan?
  • As I noticed in your documentation, you now talk about the API calls as a form of “currency”, do you plan to move further into a pay-as-you-need model? For people in my situation, that would be a mutually profitable change from a subscription-based model.

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out.
The free plan gives you access to some of our APIs, but with a one-year history limit. By purchasing additional API calls, you can increase the number of requests beyond the standard 20 calls included in the plan. The limit of 1,000 requests per minute applies to all subscription types. We’ll take your suggestion about a pay-as-you-need model into consideration — thank you for sharing it.

Hi Levon,

Thank you for your reply. For now, I will not need historical data. As long as I have access to EOD data for EURONEXT, NYSE, and NASDAQ, that will be sufficient for the monitoring system I develop.

I’ll switch to the €19.99/month or €29.99/month plan at a later time.

– Sylvain

You are very welcome. Feel free to reach out any time.
